Tuxedo Administrator

The Tuxedo Administrator is part of a team supporting VA IT infrastructure out of the VA Hines Data Center.  Candidate must possess strong technical background and experience related to the Oracle Tuxedo tools.  Must be well versed in working with end customers in working with them to expand and understand the use of system and application and their capabilities to improve the overall performance of IT technologies across the VA enterprise network.


  • Provide support for the installation, maintenance and administration of UNIX and Windows Tuxedo online transaction processing  (OLTP) components,
  • Perform transaction processing analysis and support to the UNIX and Windows components, applying fixes when required.
  • Assist the SDE EO OLTP team with the completion of all Tuxedo software implementation documentation and installation of software fixes.
  • Establish and maintain transaction processor (TP) configurations and jobs required to support the Oracle database transaction processor (TP) routines.
  • Monitor, troubleshoot and fine-tune all TP performance with the Oracle Unix-based platform.
  • Document, diagnose and correct problems that occur within installed Tuxedo applications.
  • Provide on-the-job training for SDE EO Tuxedo server administrators supporting assigned applications.
  • Configure, Administer and use Computer Associates IntroScope and TSAM performance monitoring

Qualifications/Education requirements:

  • Bachelor’s Degree in Computer Science or business related field preferred

  • 5+ years senior-level experience with Oracle Tuxedo tools

  • Significant experience with Oracle Tuxedo supporting large enterprise installations across a national infrastructure. Should have experience in monitoring data performance, integrating disparate applications to operate with the Oracle Tuxedo environment

Preferred Skills:

  • Implementation and support of the Tuxedo solution from Oracle. Familiar with working with vendor (as needed) to resolve issues with software.
  • Position requires the ability to obtain a security clearance.
  • Significant experience with Oracle Tuxedo
  • Experience with continuous process improvement methods relating to both IT and business processes including the use of dashboard, KPIs and process analysis techniques.
  • Demonstrable experience leading a globally distributed IT team, setting accountabilities and providing development coaching.
