SPLUNK Administrator / Engineer

The Splunk Administrator should have 1-3 years demonstrated experience with installation, configuring data inputs and forwarders, data management, user accounts, licenses, and troubleshooting and monitoring. In particular, a successful applicant must understand and demonstrate the knowledge, best practices, and configuration details for Splunk administration in a medium to large distributed deployment environment. The administrator must be familiar  with installation, configuration, and management of the Splunk App for Enterprise Security. This includes knowledge with event processing and normalization, deployment requirements, technology add-ons, its settings, and recommended customizations.


  • Design, implement and maintain a Splunk log collection solution for the Performance Infrastructure Operational Environments
  • Develop and customize Splunk using its XML templates for advanced configuration and macros
  • Build Splunk dashboards with search forms, views, packaging and distribution
  • Implement Splunk integration to external systems
  • Create Customized Splunk queries using Splunk query language
  • Promoted advanced searching, forensics and analytics
  • Expedite creative solutions to complex problems
  • Work with automation technologies to remedy issues in a proactive manner

Required Skills

  • Hands on experience with Splunk
  • Experience with Splunk in an Infrastructure Environment (security, IT operations)
  • Comprehensive experience with the Splunk tool (search terms, ability to do correlation between data sets, data indexing)
  • Developed and has customized Splunk Apps and dashboards
  • Implemented Splunk integration to external systems
  • Working knowledge of Splunk query language
  • Ability to do data custodian work as directed by the business customer
  • Development and Administration experience
  • A broad base of knowledge across multiple areas of IT
  • Familiarity working with large-scale distributed software systems
  • Understanding of system administration and operations in Linux, Unix, Windows
  • Built advanced visualization systems
  • Scripting experience with REGx, Python, AJAX or other
  • Promoted advanced searching, forensics and analytics
  • Experience with virtualization and monitoring technologies

Qualifications/Education requirements:

Bachelor’s degree in a related field or relevant work experience required or at least 8 years of IT experience and at least 5 years directly related to the required area of expertise.

Optional / Desirable skills:

SPLUNK certified candidates preferred
Experience with F5 Networks BIG-IP load balancer is a plus

Additional notes: Minimum Public Trust Level 6 required
